 Hi all!

This is just a quick post to let you know I've made
an account on DeviantArt. When I was working on my most recent bookbinding post, I discovered how little space for photos DW actually has. If I write a few more articles like that here, I'll be running out of space very soon, so I realised I needed another place to host those photos. For now, dA is that place.
I've been working on my new account there for the past few days. I've posted the 'uncensored' photos of The Lost World (book version) there, meaning that they don't have my name blocked out like the ones on AO3 do, and also added a few more Snarry related bookbinding projects (sorry for the spam
[personal profile] themightyflynn !). It's not a lot yet, but I'll obviously be adding to my collection when I make something new. Either way, the account is there, it exists, feel free to take a look!

When I was exploring the fannish side of dA, I had the unexpected pleasure to come across another Snarry book! It's called
Snarry Notebook and made in 2015 by Vanyanie, a bookbinder who makes mostly fannish books. This book is not inspired by a fic, it's just a general Snarry notebook, but it's gorgeous! It has a beautiful green leather spine, which is hand embossed, and features some really lovely Snarry fanart on the cover and end papers. Vanyanie is a great bookbinder and I'm so happy to see someone else take inspiration from the pairing for a book. Go check it out!

This year, I've decided to participate in HP Horrorfest for the first time and wrote a sad story called Green. The fest is not pairing specific and I was nervous to step out of my comfortable Snarry bubble, but I ended up enjoying it a lot! It was very valuable to get feedback from people who don't ship Snarry at all. To everyone who commented, thank you so much for your kind words!

The fest was also memorable because it was the first time that I worked with a beta. I was very nervous about it beforehand, but I shouldn't have been. Having my story beta-read was a great experience and the final fic was so much better than it would have been without someone else's suggestions. A huge thank you to [personal profile] acid for all your help! It was very much appreciated.

I enjoyed each and every entry in the fest, but there were a few that really stood out to me. For anyone interested, I'll post a few recs below. Coincidentally, all of them are gen.

In the Dark, Deep Woods by hiddenhibernian was probably my favourite from the whole fest. It was a beautiful, gritty dystopia told from Ginny's POV. The characters were well-written and the worldbuilding was interesting and believable, very impressive for a 3,6k fic. I've come across this writer more often and was always impressed by their work, so I was happy to see this one was theirs. Highly recommended!

Skin Jar by BirdieMing was such a nice surprise. It's only 8k and takes place in Cokeworth, the summer after the Snape-Lily incident. Surprisingly though, it is told from Petunia's POV. I was delighted to see a fic revolve around her and found her reasoning and motivations very believable. The only downside is that I don't think Petunia would outslytherin Snape, not even a young one, and therefore the second half of the story didn't work as well for me. Nevertheless, great story!

Down in the Ground by Coriaria was a creepy fic in which a Harry suffering from PTSD is sent to a mental institution. It's only 8k and the author has chosen to spend more storytime on showing us the tentative friendships Harry is building with the other inmates than on the horrors of the mad house, and it worked so well for me! It's truly a good story. The weakest part, however, was the final chapter, because it feels somewhat rushed. You can skip it though, even according to the author themselves. You'll still have a proper ending when you do, just not a very happy one.

Those were my recs. I enjoyed this fest a lot and am so happy that I decided to participate. A huge thank you to the mods for hosting it and to everyone else who has helped making it a success!

Hi,

Nice to meet you! I'm new here. My name is Antuhsa, which means 'human' in a language that died out long before Christ ever set foot on this planet. I am a human, of the female kind, and was born and raised in a small country on the European continent.

I started this journal mainly for fanfiction purposes. I discovered fanfiction about two years ago, more or less by accident. Of course I had known about its existence for much longer, but I wasn't interested. It turned out I just hadn't come across the right kind of fanfiction. In the end, all it took was a a lightning bolt shaped scar, combined with an equal amount of black, greasy hair, just a hint of acerbic wit, and I was off.

I haven't looked back since.

In the process of making my way through all the Snarry's on AFF.net, I became acquainted with fanfic-reader-frustration No. 1: becoming well and truly hooked by a great fic, only to discover it has been left unfinished for years. Tormenting as that experience was, it did motivate me to start writing myself and bring an old hobby back to life.

And so I did. I started writing and the ideas flowed from my pen, fic after fic after fic. I outlined them, wrote the first few chapters, and started on the next one. Outlined, started writing, and moved on to the next idea. And again. And again. And again. I must have a dozen half-finished fics lying around by now. All of which I look forward to sharing, but.... I've got to finish them first. Realising I seem to be unable to do so on my own, I decided to join DW. I discovered many of my favourite writers were here, so I hope I will find what I need here too. I've already seen the Snarry community is absolutely lovely, so I have no doubt I will one day manage to overcome my anxiety and go for it.

In the meantime I will use this journal to keep track of what is going on in the Snarry world and connect with others. Looking forward to it!
