Hell yeah, friends are the best part of fandom! I honestly don't know how I did without for my first 3 years of reading. I didn't mind so much then, but I wouldn't go back to that time now!
You're welcome! The Reddit community was very lovely. A lot of people use pseuds though, myself included, because not everyone was comfortable being known as a slash reader/ writer in other parts of Reddit. Especially the general HP fanfic subreddit is quite unfriendly when it comes to slash. It's a shame, though it did help me hone my detective skills. I became pretty good at figuring out who other people were after a while :p. But to answer your question, no, Reddit doesn't have tags. There is a search bar which helps matter somewhat, but in the end it does come down to scrolling. You can scroll through the community in general or through one person's comments. It can be a bit of a pain, but in the case of PI, it was certainly worth it ;). However, if you aren't sure whether you'll like the platform, you don't actually need an account to be able to read everything, so you can try it out for a while without committing to anything.
So you know Potions and Snitches too? I hadn't expected that! I found it completely by accident a few weeks ago and had never seen anyone mention it before then.
I suppose you're right about gen not getting the attention it deserves. I love gen and often even prefer it to smut, but it is harder to search for it on ao3. A lot of people are following relationship tags, but there are no tags for gen, so it's easy to miss it. Funnily enough, the general HP fanfic Subreddit I mentioned might be anti-slash, but it's super pro gen, and to me it was worth following for some of the surprisingly lovely gen recs.
